2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago on Ravenswood Avenue, 12-22-18 (more)

On December 22, 2018, Chicago saw two 2-11 alarm fires, with the second one occurring at 6417 N Ravenswood Avenue. This fire was the second of the day and proved to be a challenging incident for responding firefighters. According to Chi-Town Fire Photos, the call initially started as an E43 dispatch for a rubbish fire, but was quickly upgraded to a full structure fire after the MFAO (Main Fire Alarm Office) confirmed the situation. The scene was a single-story auto body shop, where smoke was visible from all sides. Firefighters made forced entry through side B, only to be met with heavy smoke. They attempted to make a forward advance, but were pulled back by the incident commander, who immediately ordered a box alarm. Companies shifted to a defensive strategy due to the stubborn nature of the fire, which showed little progress for some time. With limited resources on scene, additional companies were brought in, and a 2-11 alarm was eventually called. At its peak, the fire involved eight hand lines and two aerial master streams. Despite the intensity, the fire was contained to the structure, preventing it from spreading to adjacent buildings. The roof was burned through, but the efforts of the crews helped limit the damage.
