2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago on Ravenswood Avenue, 12-22-18 (more)

On December 22, 2018, Chicago saw two 2-11 alarm fires, with the second one occurring at 6417 N Ravenswood Avenue. This fire was the second of the day and proved to be a challenging incident for firefighters. According to Chi-Town Fire Photos, the call initially started as an E43 response for a rubbish fire, but the MFAO quickly upgraded it to a full structure fire. As the scene developed, crews found a one-story auto body shop engulfed in smoke from all sides. The first responders made forced entry through side B, only to be met with heavy smoke and limited visibility. Despite their efforts, the chief ordered a box alarm due to the intensity of the fire and the difficulty in making progress. The fire was stubborn and required multiple companies to go defensive. At its peak, eight hand lines and two aerial master streams were deployed. Although the fire burned through the roof, it was contained and did not spread to adjacent buildings. The operation was resource-intensive, and staging areas struggled to keep up with the demand. Here’s a link to the full gallery for more visuals of the event.
