September 23, 2013, Yokohama Rubber Company is located in the new plant in Mississippi held a ground-breaking ceremony, President of Yokohama rubber, Mississippi Governor and several company executives and government officials attended the ceremony. The site of the new plant is located in West Point, Mississippi. The plant is expected to be operational in October 2015 and will begin production of truck and passenger tires. Yokohama Rubber plans to invest 300 million U.S. dollars in the new factory in West Point in the first phase, and employs about 500 employees. In the future, the company's investment in the new factory and its staff size are expected to expand by three times. According to Yokohama Rubber's financial report, the company's operating income for the first half of this year reached 269.69 billion yen (about 2.7 billion US dollars), a slight increase of 0.3% over the same period last year; but operating profit still fell 4.2% year-on-year to 19.06 billion yen (About 190 million U.S. dollars); net profit fell 5.3% year-on-year to 12.98 billion yen (about 130 million U.S. dollars).
