2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, 10-14-19 (more)

More from Steve Redick on the 2-11 Alarm fire in Chicago, October 14, 2019

I arrived late to this scene, and by the time I got there, they had already declared an emergency evacuation. The horns were blaring because an internal collapse had just happened. I managed to take some good photos, but I was shooting into the sun a lot, and the thick smoke made it hard to get clear shots. The building itself was pretty unusual with some tricky access points.

The event was intense and chaotic, with firefighters working under tough conditions. Despite the challenges, the team did an incredible job responding quickly and efficiently. It’s always a sobering experience to witness such scenes up close, and these photos capture the raw energy and dedication of the first responders.
