Chicago Still & Box 5-17-11

Last night, Steve Redick captured a Still & Box alarm at 3636 Grenshaw. The fire started on the back porches of a three-story, six-unit building that appeared to be unoccupied. Engine 107 was the second unit to arrive and was directed to the rear of the structure. There, they deployed their deck gun to aggressively attack the main body of the fire before securing a hydrant at the end of the alley. A photo shows Truck 48 positioning its ladder on the front of the building, while another image highlights the intense flames burning along the deck area on one side of the back porch, which then spread across the roof. Engine 38 was the first to arrive and took the front of the building, setting up a critical initial response. Engine 107 used their deck gun effectively before moving to secure the hydrant, showcasing the coordinated efforts of the firefighters. Another shot reveals heavy charring on the upper deck, indicating the severity of the fire's impact. Steve has compiled a small gallery of images from the incident, offering a visual record of the event. His photos provide a real-time look at the challenges faced by the crews and the extent of the damage caused by the fire. This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of quick response and effective firefighting tactics in urban environments.
