Commercial fire in Rolling Meadows, 4-24-19
On Wednesday afternoon, April 24, 2019, firefighters from Rolling Meadows were dispatched to 2905 W. Algonquin Road after reports of smoke coming from the building. The location was identified as the Egg’lectic Cafe. As the situation unfolded, the alarm was upgraded to a Code 4 and later escalated to a MABAS Box Alarm when fire was discovered in the attic. Fortunately, the fire remained contained within the attic area, preventing further spread.
A large number of emergency units responded to the scene, showcasing a coordinated effort between multiple departments. Rolling Meadows Fire Department sent Engines 15 and 16, Ambulances 15 and 16, Battalion 15, and department chiefs. Palatine Fire Department contributed Engine 84, Tower 84, Squad 85, Battalion 8, and two chief officers. Arlington Heights FD brought in Tower 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Ambulance 3, and a chief officer. Additional support came from Palatine Rural Engine 36, Schaumburg Engine 52 and Squad 55, Elk Grove Township Engine 11, Elk Grove Village Engine 10, Mount Prospect Tower 13, Buffalo Grove Ambulance 25, and a Rosemont ambulance.
The scene was filled with emergency vehicles, highlighting the seriousness of the incident. Firefighters worked quickly to contain the blaze, with some seen venting the roof of the commercial building. Others were seen working inside, using lines to suppress the fire. After the fire was under control, crews conducted an overhaul, and some firefighters were seen covered in insulation from the cleanup process.
