From the Chicago Tribune:

A fatal accident occurred this morning on southbound I-57 near 159th Street in Markham, causing a complete shutdown of all lanes, according to local authorities.

The incident took place just before 9:30 a.m., close to the 159th Street exit, as reported by the Illinois State Police. A dump truck was involved and appears to have rolled over after hitting the concrete median barrier on the left side of the highway.

Monique Bond, a spokesperson for the state police, said that shortly after the collision, the truck caught fire, trapping the driver inside. The victim has been identified as 75-year-old Napoleon Brewer, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

By around 11:30 a.m., all southbound lanes were closed due to the accident and debris. Emergency crews worked through the day to clear the road, and by approximately 3 p.m., traffic had resumed, though significant amounts of gravel and wreckage remained.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash, but no official details have been released yet. Local residents and commuters expressed shock over the sudden and tragic event, which disrupted daily traffic in the area for several hours.
