A man was rescued after being partially buried in a grain bin on West Mondamin Street at Minooka Grain, Lumber & Supply Co. around 12:45 p.m. on Thursday. Firefighters from approximately 20 departments worked together to free the individual, who was trapped up to his waist in flowing grain.

The rescue operation took several hours, with firefighters and a Vac-Con vacuum truck removing grain from the silo. The man was successfully freed just before 4 p.m. and was reported to be conscious and breathing throughout the process.

According to the National Agricultural Safety Database, it can take as little as two or three seconds for someone to become stuck in flowing grain, and within 10 seconds, they could be completely submerged. This highlights the extreme danger of working near grain bins without proper safety measures.
