The first 1.5 MW air-cooled doubly-fed wind turbine was put into use
The most advanced low-temperature wind turbine developed by China has recently been successfully manufactured in Deyang, Sichuan Province. This 1.5-megawatt unit is designed to operate continuously for up to 20 years in extreme cold conditions, specifically at temperatures as low as -45°C. The core 1.5 MW low-temperature motor was supplied by the Yongji Motor Factory of China North Locomotive Group and has already been deployed in real-world applications. The technology behind this product has reached international leading standards, with three independently owned patents that highlight its innovation and technical superiority.
At the 3rd Asian Wind Energy Conference and International Wind Energy Equipment Exhibition held in Beijing earlier this year, the 1.5 MW motor from Yongji Motor Factory attracted significant attention from both domestic and international industry experts. In July, the factory delivered the first 1.5 MW air-cooled doubly-fed wind turbine to Sichuan Deyang Dongfang Steam Turbine. So far, more than 10 units have been produced for this project, and the company plans to continue supplying these motors in the coming months.
Yongji Motor Factory has been actively involved in the wind power market since 2000. Its early entry, advanced technology, and reliable performance have earned it a strong reputation in the Chinese market. Over the years, the factory has developed a wide range of wind power products, including 600 kW, 750 kW, 800 kW, 1,000 kW squirrel-cage motors, and a 1.5 MW wind power system. It currently holds more than 80% of the domestic market share. According to reports, the factory's annual production of wind power products is expected to exceed 500 units in 2006, with a target of reaching 1,000 units in 2007.
Looking ahead, the company plans to transition its motors from squirrel-cage to doubly-fed and eventually to direct-drive systems. It also aims to move from single motor solutions to integrated wind power systems. These developments are expected to make wind power products a key pillar of the factory’s business, significantly enhancing its overall competitiveness and helping it achieve its long-term goal of becoming a strong, refined, and comprehensive enterprise.
