BorgWarner Next Generation Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Technology Reduces Cummins Diesel Engine Emissions

BorgWarner recently successfully launched a new generation of electronically controlled exhaust gas recirculation valve. The valve was successfully produced in two 1.1.9-liter and 15-liter commercial diesel engines from Cummins. The new generation of commercial diesel EGR valves integrates BorgWarner's advanced EGR valve technology and driver technology to effectively reduce diesel emissions and meet the most demanding durability and reliability requirements of commercial vehicle diesel engines.

Dr. Thomas Waldhier, president and general manager of BorgWarner Emissions Systems, said: “Current commercial and industrial diesel engines require the use of the most advanced exhaust gas recirculation system to reduce the engine's combustion temperature and reduce harmful nitrogen oxide emissions. The requirements for this market segment emission standard have become more stringent. We expect that the demand for our exhaust gas recirculation system will increase significantly."

BorgWarner's new generation of electronically controlled butterfly exhaust gas recirculation valves are designed to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. They feature precise, fast-response control and provide high flow in the harshest operating environments. , excellent sealing, corrosion resistance and reliable operation. All major components (including outer shells and valve discs) are made of stainless steel for durability.

This butterfly exhaust gas recirculation valve is driven by BorgWarner's brushless motor. With its powerful and reliable gear set, the actuator can provide high working torque, fast response and good durability. Inside the brushless motor driver, sensors can provide feedback information to the closed-loop control system to determine the position of the butterfly EGR valve and ensure precise control of the recirculated exhaust gas. This brushless motor driver integrates electronic drive and intelligent control technology and has undergone rigorous reliability verification and can be applied to a variety of powertrain products. It is available in both smart and non-intelligent versions, and water-cooled for hot-side placement.
