Qiaozhi governance valve stem drip chronic disease

At Harbin Locomotive Depot, a team of engineers managed to solve a long-standing issue of fuel leakage without spending a single penny. The problem involved the constant dripping from valve stems, which had become a chronic issue in the locomotive fuel unloading and handling process. Every time fuel was transported, regulated, or measured, it passed through check valves that often started leaking within six months of installation. According to statistics, each section of the depot lost about 1,100 kilograms of fuel annually—equivalent to nearly 4,000 yuan. This loss not only cost money but also wasted valuable resources. Two years ago, metrologist Wang Yao-Bin and engineer Yan Lin Chen began thinking about how to tackle this issue more effectively. After numerous trials, they discovered a clever and cost-effective solution: using discarded air duct rubber rings as a replacement for traditional valve packing material. The results were impressive—leakage was significantly reduced, and the method proved to be highly effective. By implementing this simple fix, the depot managed to prevent over 3,000 kilograms of fuel from being lost each year. This innovative approach not only saved the depot more than 10,000 yuan annually but also demonstrated the power of creative thinking and resourcefulness. Instead of buying new parts, they repurposed what would have otherwise been waste, turning a problem into an opportunity. Their success shows that sometimes the best solutions come from looking at things in a different way.
