Recently, at Weichai's 2017 market technology matchmaking meeting, Weichai launched the current maximum displacement V8 vehicle engine WP17. At the Shanghai BMW Show, Weichai WP17 was unveiled as a mysterious new product, which also attracted great attention from the industry.

The 17-liter displacement high-powered car engine is currently almost unprecedented in China. It represents the advanced technological achievements of Weichai and ends the situation that such products have been monopolized by foreign products for a long time. Domestic heavy engineering equipment has its own "Chinese core."

The WP17 engine adopts the current mainstream technology such as high pressure common rail, direct injection, supercharged intercooling, and SCR post processing. The cylinder diameter is 127mm, the stroke is 165mm, the displacement is 16.72L, the rated power is 515kW, and the torque of 3000N.m can be output at 1200-1500 rpm, which meets the Euro 6 emission regulations.

The main components of this high-end engine are large-scale construction vehicles or equipment such as car cranes, crawler cranes, large transport vehicles, mining trucks, and bulldozers.

From the appearance, the Weichai WP17 engine uses a V8 structure and a twin turbocharger system. And the oil sump is different from the ordinary road model, and the engineering sump with higher structural strength can adapt to the extremely harsh working environment of the engineering vehicle.

The Weichai WP17 engine does not use the common spin-on oil and diesel filter, but uses a replaceable filter-type filter unit. This design can greatly reduce the maintenance cost of the engine, and the replacement operation is more convenient, in line with the environment of the engineering engine.

The twin-turbo system shares a single intake port, and the pressurized air is supplied to the cylinders on both sides, and the exhaust gas discharged from each side only drives the supercharger on the side, and the independence is good. When a single-sided failure occurs, the entire system will not be paralyzed and the redundancy will be higher.

Large-scale engineering vehicles use a large amount of electricity, so the engine uses a dual-generator system to meet the large demand for electricity; dual-generators that are backed up each other indirectly increase the reliability of the system and reduce the cause. As an engineering engine, the PTO interface is naturally essential, and it can be used to drive equipment such as hydraulic pumps that have power requirements.

The rear of the WP17 engine is equipped with a two-cylinder air compressor with a displacement of 630ml, which is sufficient for the huge demand for compressed air in large engineering vehicles.

Weichai is one of the few internal combustion engine companies in China with self-developed ECUs, so the ECUs on the WP17 engine are their own products.

In addition, the WP17 engine is equipped with a firewood Super Power engine brake system with a maximum braking power of 320 kW. It provides safer driving protection for heavy construction vehicles in the extreme downhill conditions common in mining areas.
