Hot Report: How Big is the Impact of the "11·13" Explosion Accident

At around 13:45 on the November 13th, the nitrification unit of the aniline plant at the Sinopec Jilin Petrochemical Company's Shuangbang Plant exploded, and a huge black mushroom cloud enveloped the urban area of Jilin City, causing more than 10,000 residents to be evacuated. At present, the cause of the accident has been ascertained, and the lives of the residents around the Shuangben factory have slowly returned to normal. However, people in the industry are thinking about the long-term impact of the explosion on the development of the entire industry.
After closely following the “11·13′′ explosion, the industry expressed the same concern: The current annual production capacity of the largest aniline production enterprises accident, the aniline market supply and price will have what kind of impact? At present, the total production capacity of aniline in China is approximately 500,000 tons. The annual production capacity of the double benzene plant of Jilin Petrochemical Company is 136,000 tons, which accounts for 27% of the total production capacity and is basically full-load production. The explosion caused the new aniline plant with an annual output of 70,000 tons to be scrapped, and the old aniline plant with an annual output of 66,000 tons was stopped due to safety issues and tank explosion. The person concerned estimates that the old aniline plant is also the fastest It is not until the Spring Festival next year that it will be put into production. As a result, if the production rate is cut down by 40% for 4 months, the supply of aniline will be reduced by approximately 40,000 to 50,000 tons in the domestic market in March and April next year. The impact of the explosion on the aniline market slowly emerged: prices first stabilized and rose slightly. By November 21st, the production price of aniline in some production plants had risen to 11,000 yuan per ton.
It is understood that the current consumption of aniline in China is roughly composed of: organic intermediates accounted for 30%, MDI accounted for 25%, rubber additives accounted for 15%, dyes accounted for 13%, medicine accounted for 10%, pesticides accounted for 5%, other accounted for 2%. In particular, the demand for MDI and organic intermediates is strong. The Yantai Wanhua Ningbo Daxie Industrial Park will produce 160,000 tons of MDI annually. The production of one ton of MDI requires 0.75 tons of aniline, and the Yantai Wanhua MDI project in Ningbo requires approximately 120,000 tons of aniline. It is also known that the 100,000-ton-ton aniline plant of the Sinopec Nanjing Chemical Plant is in trial operation and will be officially put into production this year. However, due to the lack of hydrogen sources, production cannot be achieved soon after formal production.
With the resumption of the production of Jilin Petrochemical's old aniline plant and the production of a new aniline plant with an annual output of 130,000 tons by the Shanxi Tianji Group and 30,000 tons by the Jiangsu Jiangyin Shuangliang Group, the production of aniline will soon return to the state before the explosion. There will even be more. However, during the period before these devices were put into production, the aniline market supply will be somewhat strained.
Changes in the aniline market have also affected its upstream industries. Nitric acid is the main upstream industry for the production of aniline. Anhui Huaihua Group is the nation's largest manufacturer and distributor of concentrated nitric acid. After the '11·13' explosion, the manager of the group, Wu Huaquan, was very concerned about the changes in the concentrated nitric acid market. At the same time, it requested the benzene production units to strengthen safety management, and sales of crude benzene were strictly limited. Tried benzene 'three certificates'. Manager Wu said that the current concern is the equipment damage and production recovery capability of Jilin Petrochemical's aniline plant. Jilin Petrochemical itself also owns a 100,000-tonne concentrated nitric acid production plant. After the production of 'Dual Benzene' was stopped, the production of concentrated nitric acid could not be carried by the owner's wagon. It was also forced to stop production on November 15. When will their aniline plant be recovered? Will their nitric acid products flow to the market? These are the urgent concerns of the nitric acid companies.
Environmental Protection is Worrying On November 17, an investigation team led by the Jilin Provincial Bureau of Safety Production announced the causes and losses of the '11·13' explosion: T101 Tower, T102 Tower, and two nitrobenzene storage tanks. Two nitric acid tanks exploded. Two other benzene tanks and one nitrobenzene tank burned. Aniline and nitrobenzene are dangerous chemicals. The products after combustion contain carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides. Nitric acid is a strong acid and has strong corrosiveness and volatility. In order to reduce the hazard after the explosion, the firefighters did not quickly extinguish the open flame, but after confirming that the material on the scene had been completely burned off, the fire was extinguished at 4 a.m. on November 14. On the 15th, the atmospheric quality returned to normal levels. Fortunately, due to the emergency plan initiated by the relevant authorities after the accident, the connection with other devices was cut off in a timely manner, causing no wider range of explosions, and measures were taken to minimize the harm to the environment during the firefighting process. . However, this explosion will not cause pollution to the surrounding environment. This is something that no one dares to pack easily.
On November 21, the Harbin Municipal People's Government issued an announcement saying that due to the prediction by the environmental protection department that the water in the Harbin City section of the Songhua River may be polluted by the upstream water caused by the explosion of the Sinopec Jilin Petrochemical Company's Double Benzene Plant, in order to ensure the people in the urban area. The people and organs, enterprises, and institutions use water safely. The Municipal People's Government decided that the urban water supply network temporarily stop water supply for 4 days.
The negative impact of the society is far-reaching This explosion occurred in the afternoon. In the evening’s news broadcast, there was an explosion on the TV screen. All media across the country had made a live broadcast. It can be said that this explosion has a huge impact on society. This can not help but remind us of the chlorine leakage and explosion accident that occurred in Chongqing Tianyuan more than a year ago and the Huai'an liquid chlorine leakage accident that occurred this year. These accidents have caused casualties and large-scale evacuation. Obviously, in addition to frequent safety incidents in the coal industry, the occurrence of dangerous chemical accidents has also aroused widespread public concern. The pressure for the survival of chemical companies from society will increase. Not long ago, the Measures for Promoting Public Participation in Environmental Impact Assessment of the State Environmental Protection Administration publicly solicited opinions from the society. The "Method" emphasizes information disclosure to ensure public participation. It can be expected that with the public’s request for disclosure of chemical company information and safety protection, it will be increasingly difficult for the chemical project to be established. In the future, various chemical projects will be more cautious.
Although the shock waves caused by this explosion have slowly subsided, the impact on the industry and the market is far-reaching.
