Malaysian natural rubber production fell by 3.8% in November from a year earlier
In a recent report, the Malaysian Bureau of Statistics revealed that natural rubber imports in Malaysia dropped by 3.8% year-on-year in November 2007, reaching 96,602 tons. This decline came despite an overall increase in domestic demand and a rise in import volumes during the same period.
Meanwhile, natural rubber exports for the same month fell by 7.9%, totaling 86,747 tons. However, there was a significant surge in imports, which climbed by 44.4% to 59,395 tons. This contrast highlights the shifting dynamics in Malaysia's rubber trade.
The data also indicated a strong upward trend in domestic consumption, which rose by 21% to 39,102 tons in November. This suggests increased usage of natural rubber within the country, possibly driven by industrial or manufacturing activities.
As of the end of November, total natural rubber stocks in Malaysia stood at 156,441 tons, reflecting a 20.2% decrease compared to the same period in the previous year. This drop in inventory could be attributed to higher consumption rates and lower import levels, signaling a potential tightening in supply.
Overall, the figures paint a mixed picture of Malaysia’s natural rubber market, with rising domestic demand offsetting declines in both exports and stockpiles. The situation may prompt further policy considerations or adjustments in trade strategies moving forward.
