Among them, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia are the top 3 producers of natural rubber in the world and their exports account for more than 70% of the world's natural rubber. They have long monopolized the international market. However, in recent years, Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar have made rapid progress in the rubber industry. In the future, the world's major rubber production bases will enter the era of thriving development in which the three countries lead and the five countries will rise together, which will certainly have an important impact on the world rubber market.

As a traditional agricultural country, Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar have the same favorable conditions in the development of the rubber industry. Due to the needs of domestic economic construction and the stimulation of export earnings, the above countries have paid great attention to the development of the rubber industry in recent years and have made gratifying achievements.

As early as 2004, rubber became Vietnam's second largest export agricultural product after rice. In 2009, Vietnam formulated the “2015-2020 Rubber Development Plan”, which will focus on the development of the rubber industry in five regions including the southeast, the western and southern coasts, the central and northern regions, and the northwest. The planned total investment will be approximately VND 30 trillion (approx. 171 million U.S. dollars). It is planned that by 2020, the rubber planting area will reach 800,000 hectares, natural rubber will produce 1.2 million tons per year, and exports will earn 2 billion U.S. dollars. Judging from the current situation, the rubber industry in Vietnam has been developing smoothly. The export volume, production volume and planting area of ​​natural rubber ranks third, fifth and sixth respectively in the world. In 2011, Vietnam exported 816,000 tons of natural rubber, an increase of 8% year-on-year, and a foreign exchange of 1.9 billion U.S. dollars. According to the forecast of the Information Statistics Center of the Ministry of Agriculture of Vietnam, Vietnam's rubber exports this year will reach 930,000 tons, an increase of 14% over the previous year. In addition to increasing the planting area and improving technology and management, Vietnam also pays attention to strengthening international cooperation in the development of the rubber industry and learning from the advanced experience of other countries.

The Philippines is one of the countries that are well-suited for growing rubber. Commercial rubber cultivation has a history of more than 100 years. With economic interests and increasing attention from the government, the rubber planting area in the Philippines has grown from 110,000 hectares in 2007 to 160,000 hectares in 2011, with an average annual growth of 9.85%. In 2011, the Philippines produced a total of 425,000 tons of natural rubber, of which 90% were exported. For the long-term development, the Philippine Ministry of Agriculture, the Philippine Rubber Industry Association, the Philippines’ relevant local governments and foreign investors jointly formulated the “15-year Development Plan for the Natural Rubber Industry” in 2006, and plans to expand the rubber planting area to 100 by 2016. Ten thousand hectares, will increase the rubber production from the current 1 ton/ha to 2 ton/ha, and strive to obtain 960 million US dollars in export of natural rubber by 2020.

According to data from the Cambodian Ministry of Commerce, in 2011, the rubber planting area in the country reached 181,000 hectares, 46.727 tons of rubber exports, and 200 million U.S. dollars in foreign exchange. In the first quarter of this year, exports reached 12,800 tons, an increase of 8% year-on-year. In recent years, Cambodia has accelerated the pace of development of the rubber industry. In 2011, it approved 20 investment projects with a total investment of 675 million U.S. dollars. According to the plan, rubber planting area in Cambodia is expected to increase to 200,000 hectares this year and increase to 250,000 hectares in 2015. By 2020, the rubber planting area will reach 300,000 hectares and the annual output will reach 290,000 tons.

In Myanmar, the country's rubber planting area for the fiscal year 2006-2007 was 290,000 acres, with 70,000 tons of rubber produced and 50,000 tons exported. In the 2010-2011 financial year, Myanmar's rubber plantation area exceeded 400,000 acres, and rubber production reached 87,000 tons. To further develop the rubber industry, the Myanmar government has also formulated a 30-year development plan. Although the development of the Laos rubber industry is relatively backward, the development momentum in recent years is rapid and the prospects are promising. In 2008, the area of ​​natural rubber planted was 140,000 hectares, and in 2010 it had expanded to 248,800 hectares.
