Yuchai YC6L Heavy Machinery Environmental Protection New Mark

With a mission of "dedicating itself to clean energy and building a harmonious environment," Yuchai has achieved significant technological breakthroughs, continuously introducing innovative products. Among these, the Yuchai Heavy Machinery YC6L engine stands out as a prime example of its progress in emission control and overall performance. In 2002, Yuchai conducted the road test of China's first four-valve heavy-duty diesel engine, the YC6L. By the end of that year, it collaborated with Dongfeng Liuzhou Automobile and Shaanxi Heavy Duty Truck to develop a prototype vehicle supporting the YC6L. In 2003, the YC6L-powered truck was quietly launched into the market by Dongfeng Liuzhou Automobile. The four-valve technology enhances engine efficiency by increasing the valve cross-section by approximately 15%, reducing intake and exhaust resistance, and improving air intake. It also allows for vertical positioning of the fuel injector, ensuring better mixing of air and fuel in the combustion chamber. This leads to lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions. The main challenge in implementing four-valve technology lies in the cylinder head manufacturing. In 2000, Yuchai’s experienced die design and foundry teams became the first in China to produce four-valve diesel engine cylinder heads. As a high-grade heavy-duty engine based on 21st-century global diesel technology, the YC6L Euro II engine delivers power ranging from 206 to 257 kW (280 to 350 PS), suitable for 10 to 13.7-meter passenger cars and 10 to 15-ton trucks. It uses FEV’s specific combustion system, P7100 injection pump, wet cylinder liners, and European forced-cooled pistons, ensuring excellent cooling and low noise. Its patented gear meshing technology and strict FEV development procedures guarantee long life and reliability, with a guaranteed 250,000 km or 20 months of operation. In 2003, while most domestic engines were still upgrading to Euro I standards, Yuchai had already fully met Euro II requirements. The launch of the four-valve Euro II YC6L showcased Yuchai’s strong technical capability and social responsibility. Later that year, Yuchai also introduced the first domestically produced engine meeting Euro III standards, three years ahead of its competitors. As emission regulations became stricter, technologies such as electronic fuel injection, optimized combustion, and improved fuel quality became key to achieving Euro II to Euro III upgrades. The Euro III YC6L, developed jointly with German FEV, features a Delphi electronic control unit pump, a maximum injection pressure of 1800 bar, and a seven-hole nozzle for better combustion. It can operate smoothly between -40°C and 50°C, and adapt to altitudes up to 4000 meters. It includes automatic fault diagnosis, intelligent power control, and idle load management, making it well-suited for China’s diverse conditions. In 2004, Yuchai initiated the Euro IV project in response to the rapid growth of the domestic automotive industry. In 2005, its engineers proposed the SCR after-treatment technology for heavy-duty diesel engines, which later gained widespread acceptance. In 2006, Yuchai’s YC6L equipped with a domestic SCR controller passed the Euro IV certification at the National Center for Automotive Quality Supervision and Inspection in Tianjin, becoming the first national Euro IV diesel engine approved by both the National Automobile Inspection Center and the Environmental Protection Agency. With Beijing’s full implementation of Euro III regulations, major tourism companies upgraded their fleets to Euro III vehicles. For instance, Beijing CYTS used 35 Neoplan coaches with YC6L Euro III engines, which demonstrated superior acceleration, lower noise, and 3–5 liters/100km less fuel consumption than imported models. In 2006, Beijing Shouqi Co., Ltd. ordered 30 gold passenger cars equipped with YC6L Euro III engines for the “two sessions” event. These vehicles performed reliably without any malfunctions. The upcoming YC6L Euro IV engine was tested extensively under various conditions, including homemade diesel and urea solutions, and was optimized for urban public transport in China. Yuchai’s commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility has earned it recognition, including the "China Brand Annual Award NO.1" (Internal Combustion Engine) in 2007.
