Arlington Heights basement fire 8-21-12
Arlington Heights Fire Department units responded to a reported basement fire on Monday evening at 106 S. Walnut Avenue. Tower 1 was the first to arrive and observed smoke coming from the basement area. They immediately deployed a hose line through the rear entrance, while a second line was prepared at the front door. Upon entering, firefighters discovered that the smoke was caused by pyrotechnics being used by the homeowner, which resulted in significant smoke but very little actual fire.
Several Arlington Heights units arrived at the scene, along with a mutual aid engine from Rolling Meadows. The fire crew worked quickly to ensure the area was safe and to contain the smoke. Larry Shapiro, a local photographer, arrived after the smoke had cleared and captured several images of the incident, including the newly commissioned Engine 3, which has recently joined the fleet.
The photos show Tower 1 on the scene with two lines in operation, as well as Engine 2, the first engine to arrive. Engine 3, the newest addition, features some design updates compared to previous models. The images also highlight the efforts of the firefighters who responded swiftly to the call, ensuring the situation was under control with minimal damage. This incident serves as a reminder of how quickly smoke can spread and the importance of early detection and response.
