West Chicago FPD

John Tulipano was on the scene in West Chicago this afternoon when a general alarm was called in:

For once, I was in the right place at the right time. I was behind West Chicago Station 1 when the general alarm went out. I followed the (3) buggies and Tower 6 to the fire.
The incident took place at Ball Seed, inside a research lab. From what I could tell, it started with an incubator on the second floor. Not much was visible from the outside—just some smoke coming from the building.

It looked like the crew had things under control pretty quickly. I didn’t see any flames from the outside, just some heavy smoke coming from the upper floors. The firefighters were moving fast, setting up lines and getting the tower into position. It’s always good to see how well they work together under pressure. I’ll be sure to post more updates as I get them.
