2-Alarm fire in Cicero, 6-1-21
From the photos shared by Chi-Town Fire Department:
Cicero fire units were dispatched to the intersection of 28th and Cicero Avenue late Tuesday afternoon following reports of flames coming from a building. Initially, the address was thought to be 28th Street, but multiple callers quickly corrected it to 4827 and 4829 West 28th Street. Engine Company 3 was the first to arrive and reported significant fire showing from the back of a two-and-a-half-story wooden structure, with concerns about exposure risks. Shortly after, Cicero Fire Engine F12 arrived on the scene and quickly took control of the situation. F12 noted heavy fire involvement in two, two-and-a-half-story buildings. Thick 2.5-inch fire hoses were deployed by all three Cicero engines. Cicero's Truck Company 2 made a bold attempt at a Milwaukee-style roof cut, which successfully saved most of the roof on one of the buildings. Meanwhile, Truck Company 1 worked on the roof of the adjacent building, making several critical openings to prevent further spread.
Mutual aid was requested from neighboring departments including Berwyn, Stickney, Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park, Bedford Park, Lyons, and Riverside. Every single company on the scene performed admirably, executing both aggressive interior and exterior firefighting operations to protect the remaining structures and surrounding exposures. Their swift actions undoubtedly prevented what could have been a far more catastrophic fire.
Attached are some images capturing the intense smoke and flames rising from the rooftop. The dedication and teamwork displayed by all firefighters involved were nothing short of heroic.
