2-Alarm fire in Cicero, 6-1-21

Around midday on Tuesday, Cicero's fire department received multiple calls reporting flames coming from a building near 28th and Cicero Avenue. The initial address provided was corrected to 4827 & 4829 W 28th Street. Engine Company 3 was the first to arrive on the scene and reported significant fire activity at the rear of a two-and-a-half-story wooden structure with concerns about potential spread to nearby buildings. Shortly after, Cicero Fire Engine 12 arrived and quickly surrounded the area. Engine 12 noted heavy fire in two connected two-and-a-half-story buildings. Firefighters from all three Cicero engines deployed multiple 2.5-inch hoses to combat the blaze.
Cicero's Truck Company 2 attempted an aggressive "Milwaukee-style" cut, which proved crucial in preventing further damage to one of the roofs. Meanwhile, Truck Company 1 worked on the roof of an adjacent building, making several critical openings to vent smoke and prevent further spread. Mutual aid was promptly requested from neighboring towns including Berwyn, Stickney, Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park, Bedford Park, Lyons, and Riverside. Each unit on the scene executed an impressive effort, conducting both interior and exterior attacks to save the remaining structures and surrounding properties.
