Every new version of our free PreForm Dental software enhances your experience by introducing advanced tools, boosting print speed, improving success rates, and streamlining post-processing steps.

The latest updates include:

• Automated trim plane detection when using Scan To Model
• Hollowing models to minimize material usage and save time
• Drain holes to prevent resin accumulation

These updates were developed based on user feedback to enhance workflows and boost productivity, allowing you to offer the best possible care to your patients.

To access the PreForm Dental Workspace, head to the top menu bar, click 'View', then choose 'Workspace' from the dropdown, and select 'Dental Workspace'.

Scan To Model now features automated trim plane detection. After importing a scan, select 'Scan' from the left-side menu. PreForm Dental will automatically generate the trim plane. You can then adjust the model base height and decide if the model should be hollowed out.

Hollowing dental models creates an internal cavity, reducing material consumption and speeding up print times. When the Hollow Model option is enabled, PreForm Dental automatically generates honeycombing and adds drain holes to allow resin to flow out of the model.

Automatic trim plane detection and hollowing functionalities require the user to be logged into their Dashboard account.

When importing a hollow model, there are a few tips to ensure a successful print:

• Adding drain holes is strongly recommended for hollow models.
• Failing to use the Holes feature in hollow parts can cause resin to accumulate inside, leading to print failures.
• Place drain holes at the bottom of the model to facilitate resin drainage with gravity.
• Too many drain holes might compromise the model's structural integrity, potentially causing print issues.

Previously, users had to add labels to parts before importing them into PreForm Dental for print setup. Now, adding labels directly within PreForm Dental is straightforward.

Labels can be embossed or engraved on models. Users can adjust the label size, position it anywhere on the model, and even control the depth of engraved text or the height of embossed text. By default, the label text matches the model name; to simplify workflows, name the model with the desired label text.

Labels help track models from design through post-processing to finished products, ensuring customized, patient-specific parts reach their intended recipients and minimizing communication errors.

Instead of risking mix-ups with paperwork or messages, labeling ensures parts move smoothly through post-processing while reducing the chance of errors.

PreForm’s Print Settings Editor empowers users to fine-tune specific print parameters. These specialized profiles can be saved and reused for future prints or shared with others.

For users printing in Open Material Mode (OMM), Print Settings Editor allows the creation of parameters for third-party resins or custom resins. Additionally, it provides greater control over layer height, exposure time, and other settings for those using Formlabs Resins. A comprehensive list of print setting parameters is available here.
