The facility, positioned close to Lake Huron, faces harsh environmental conditions such as frequent lake storms that bring excessive moisture and extreme cold temperatures. Additionally, the high-salt production environment accelerates chloride ion migration, leading to swelling and popping of reinforcing steel bars, ultimately causing concrete spalling.
