"Market and explore"

In the "Berlin International Green Week 2014", Ningxia wolfberry products wearing "Chinese clothes" were cold in overseas markets, triggering the thinking of companies in the industry.

Why is the contrast of consumption of the same product in different regions so great? How do companies choose to cater to some of the “tall” “Chinese style” consumption and guide green consumption through innovation?

Of course, it's more than just that. In an interview, the reporter found that there are still many problems facing the market. The drug ban has been banned, due to the lack of coverage of drying technology due to planting and dispersion, and the development of new products can not keep pace.

Undoubtedly, these are just the epitome of market dissonance.

Behind the rosy appearance

Radon is the second largest variety of Chinese herbal medicine exports, second only to ginseng.

It is widely used in foods, beverages and health products as a kind of "medicine" homologue. However, under its rosy appearance, it has hidden a hidden danger in food safety. In recent years, despite the various cleaning up by the regulatory authorities, Sulfur fumigation has been banned.

In the plutonium industry, the problem of sulphur fumigation has always existed. As early as in 2006, some media reported that in some areas of loquat planting, almost 90% of the households will use the scooping method for freshly picked loquats, which has become a necessary process in the drying process.

In fact, as early as 2004, the State Food and Drug Administration had specifically banned the use of sulfur to smoke Chinese herbal medicines. The new edition of the Pharmacopoeia, which began on July 1, 2005, also removed the use of sulphur fumigation in Chinese medicine processing.

The reporter consulted the "Drug Administration Law." Article 49 stipulates that medicinal herbs fumigated with sulphur should be treated as inferior drugs.

The law is so stipulated, but is this actually the case?

In Guangzhou, for example, some media randomly sampled five thorium samples from Guangzhou Qingping Medicinal Materials Wholesale Market, Yide Road, and supermarkets during the “3·15” period, and found that two of them had sulphur dioxide exceeding the standard. Samples of bulk cesium taken from large supermarkets were detected to have a sulphur dioxide detection value of 245 mg/kg, which was nearly 5 times higher than the standard value. The amount of sulphur dioxide purchased by Random Road was 799 mg/kg, exceeding the standard by 16 times.

The national standard “枸杞(枸杞子)” (GB/T18672-2002) stipulates that the content of sulfur dioxide in thorium should be less than 50mg/kg.

Sulfur produces sulphur dioxide during fumigation. Medical research has confirmed that sulphur dioxide is a harmful substance to the human body.

Chen Jun, a researcher at the Institute of Medicinal Plants of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, believes that a considerable number of vegetable farmers use sulphur fumigation and sodium sulfite treatment to meet the buyer's demand for color and storage, and it also seriously affects the quality and safety of wolfberry.

What is the harm to our body that is gradually becoming a sweet poison? Wu Xiaoling, a clinical nutrition doctor at Anzhen Hospital in Beijing, said that sulphur fumigated by sulphur contains sulphur dioxide, which has a strong hydrophilicity, and long-term use may lead to liver and kidney damage, neuritis, and spinal cord atrophy.

Is the phenomenon of sulphur fumigation common? Anxi, an associate researcher at the National Engineering and Technology Research Center, gave a negative answer. “As the national regulatory authorities continue to increase their efforts, sulfur fumigation is not a mainstream product on the market. It only exists in a small number of unscrupulous traders,” An Zhi told reporters at the “China Science Journal”.

It takes time to scale up drying technology

“The use of sulphur for fumigation is a last resort, mainly because the cultivation of alfalfa is mostly for farmers, and the area for planting alfalfa is not large enough to be scaled. It is impossible to build a thermal drying plant and there are financial difficulties.” Zhang Jinhong, a senior engineer at Ningxia Bairuiyuan Industrial Development Co., Ltd., told reporters from China Science Journal.

Zhang Yan, director of the Ministry of Agriculture's Product Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center, also believes that because there are relatively large numbers of retail households, it is not possible to dry them in the rainy days of July and August. It is not ruled out that some farmers will use sulfur to dry them. Although the main producing areas and large enterprises are using and promoting drying machines, natural drying is also present. “The production of plutonium is still growing more and more for each household, and it is mainly for individual farmers.”

A supplier who did not wish to be named also revealed to reporters that there are still some companies that use sulphur for fumigation. The area covered by drying equipment is not very large.

"The main reason behind this is driven by economic interests." Ma Chaoying, dean of the School of Life Science and Engineering at Southwest Jiaotong University, said that there is another way to dry without sulfur, but it is more costly. In contrast, sulfur fumigation has low cost and is simple and convenient.

In fact, in the large-scale planting of the park, due to the concentration of area and the large amount of daily harvest, it is impossible to have a large area of drying and more fruit, and sunlight alone cannot meet the needs of intensive production. Can not reach pollution-free health indicators, drying technology and equipment applications are still very wide.

An Yong introduced that there are two models of production, one is the company's professional production, the other is the small farmers scattered planting. “Actually, companies have relatively complete equipment and mature drying technology, and small farmers close to the company can use the drying technology of the company, but there is no way for scattered small farmers.” Anxi said.

"There is no way to smoke with sulfur. When it rains, if it is not smoked with sulfur, it will be black." One farmer said that such a coffin would be thrown away and a dime would not be sold.

This has to allow us to ponder: Is it possible for sulphur fumigation to completely withdraw from the market? This, or more, depends on the extensive coverage of drying technology and equipment in the peasant households.

New types of research and development are imminent

From this point of view, there will be "smuggling". Some people are thinking about how to avoid drying up, but can they escape the trap of slush?

Experts suggest that in order to avoid the hazards of sulphate cargo, new types of sulphate can be used - lyophilized.

It is reported that lyophilized wolfberry is a dry product made from vacuum freeze-drying at a temperature of minus 18°C after cryogenic preservation. The use of rapid freezing and vacuum dehydration method avoids adding alkaline water and sodium sulfite during the drying process. Excessive chemical substances, such as sulfur and sulfur, are produced in a zero-added, non-polluting, and food-safe manner.

Professor Li Qiang, a professor of agricultural engineering at the Ningxia Polytechnic Institute, introduced that compared with traditional hot-air drying technology, freeze-drying technology can most effectively preserve the main components and the original state of foods, so that the products have better color, aroma, and taste.

In view of this, considering the safety of the production process and the nutritional effects of food, the freeze-drying process is undoubtedly the leading factor in the development of the current haze.

However, due to the fact that freeze-drying technology is not widely used in China, the high requirements of the special freeze-vacuum drying process on production technology determine the high cost of freeze-drying crucible production.

It is imminent to solve this problem. Anxi believes that it can only be promoted in enterprises first. After all, companies have this strength and then gradually promote them.

In the future, we expect more innovative, green, and safe dried fruit manufacturing processes to inject new impetus into the industry, break down the slush cargo of drying process, and open up a new situation in the industry. (Reporter Qin Zhiwei)
